Cycle of Change: The Birth Month Labyrinth Series Gallery
Introduction:
Part A: Cycle of Change
Change is ever present. Each of us has been changing and meeting the small and large challenges of change since we were born. In fact, we are Masters of Change. Though this title may seem strange, let us consider our lives. By the time we are six years old, we have undergone and met and experienced so many changes that the number of changes is beyond count and, therefore, infinite. If we double the age to twelve, then twenty-four, and forty-eight, each time we can not count the number of changes, and so the size of our infinity gets bigger and bigger.
The usual statement about change is that, “Change is difficult.” Or “I find or people find change difficult.” These statements seem to deny the title of Master of Change and the infinite number of changes that we have successfully met. This apparent discrepancy occurs because most of us only recall the difficult changes, the ones that confounded us or took a great deal of time and energy to resolve. However, this selective memory essentially enables us to forget the myriad of changes that occur within and around us daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and decade by decade. These changes may be decisions about what to wear or eat, the preferences we have for food, for friends, and for vacations. Since we manage our usual changes so well, we forget that we do, and our memory enables us to say we don’t handle change well when an usual or extraordinary change has to be met.
Instead, we need to identify the type of change that we find difficult and then find the tools to assist us as we work with these types. The Cycle of Change/Birth Month Labyrinths are such tools. Change can be seen as a process of a series of stages that we go through. Each labyrinth deals with one step in this process. A user can begin with the first or January labyrinth and proceed through the twelve steps in the process, using a labyrinth for each step. Or, a user can decide which labyrinth speaks to her or him and the point in the cycle that she or he is in.
Part B: The Birth Month Labyrinths
As I began to create the Cycle of Change Labyrinths, I realized that I was creating a series of energetic patterns that represent how I experience the energy of each month of the year as the Earth moves through her cycle. In part my feeling grows from my connection to the Earth and the cycle of change through which she moves each year. These labyrinths are representations of these changing energies.
Part C:
Regardless of whether you think of these as the twelve steps in a change process or the Earth’s cycle, the user is the one who determines which step in the process as represented by one of the twelve labyrinths is appropriate for what she or he wishes to do.
